I have been aware of this site for some time but have just registered. Can anyone tell me more about the 814th and maybe under what command if not the IX Engineer Command. My father, Sgt Earl Gruber, was a part of the 814th and I believe he is pictured with the monkey on his shoulder here: http://ixengineercommand.com/units/814t ... ry-022.php My father passed away when I was 9yrs old but my mother had mentioned his monkey and I recall another picture of him with the monkey and I believe at some time he also had a dog in anothe photo. l don't recall by the background if they were in Africa or Italy. This site has been a blessing to me in finding more of my father's military history. Thank you David Little for hosting it.

The 814th was attached to the 21st Engineer Aviation Regiment under the Army Air Forces, Engineer Command, MTO (Provisional). They served in England, North Africa, Sicily, and Italy.

As a side note, my grandfather, AP Little, JR, was CO from Sept 1942 through Mar 1944. He then left to take command of the 922nd EAR prior to D-Day.
