 I've just learned that members of the 847th Engineer Aviation Battalion helped repair the runways and facilities at Tibenham Airdrome in East Anglia, England during WW2.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might have been associated with the 847th and learning about their time at Tibenham.

My dad's bomb group (445th BG) flew out of Tibenham. A member of the original unit just contacted me today and told me about the role of the 847th and I would like to add information about the unit to my website about the 445th.

Thanks...

Mike

I'm with you Mike. I'd love to know about this unit from some of its members. The 923rd EAR and its four battalions constituted the largest single African-American unit in the ETO and they built and repaired airfields for the Mighty Eighth Air Force, the First Tactical Air Force and the Ninth Air Force on the continent.

Beyond this, members of these units constituted the 200 voice strong US Army Negro Chorus and they performed all over the European Theater, including the Royal Albert Hall.

Their history is a story that should be told.
