Hello! I am brand new to this forum. I collect GI snapshot grouping from WW2 and recently purchased a lot of photos, v mails, booklets etc from a veteran who served with the 852nd. In the grouping are a bunch of snapshots of he and his buddies posed with a captured Me 109 with a late war camo pattern and the number "black 11". On the back he wrote "Hill 13" and "Weather Heights" but no place name. Does anyone here know which airfield that would have been? I also have some shots of p-38s and p-51s that he took.
Any information you have would be most helpful.
Oh the veterans name was Cpl. William Watson and he was from South Jersey.
Thanks!
Paul

I haven't run across those particular references but I believe the 852nd EAB end the war at Templehof outside Berlin. You can find all the airfields the unit worked on this page ...

Perhaps you can work backwards using this list and find the site.

Keep us posted. If you find the location I'd like to add that to the information we have here.

Do you have any identifying markings on the ME 109? I know I have been able to identify airfields in some photos based on the markings on wreckage.

Happy hunting.

David
