Hi,

I just want to thank you for maintaining a website such as this, this is such an important part of our nation's past that I'm so thankful that people like you exist. A little about myself, I'm a 22 year old student who was looking for more information on my grandfather.

He died long before I was born, but served in WWII. My mom manage to get his record pulled, but sadly it was burned in a fire in 1972. The little information i can get from it appears he was part, and I quote "19-1-44 Med. Det. 852d ENGR AVN BN." He joined the war at an earlier date, but was reassinged to this BN. And from what I also gathered, he was in this BN till the end of the war and was a surgical technician. I find this so interesting, seeing how I'm finding out this was part of IX Engineering. Any information, I can provide your or you can provide me would be very helpful.

Tim

Hey Tim. Glad you found the site.

Most of the Battalions did have a medical section with both a doctor and a dentist. There were five Medical Dispensaries too but they provided medical care to the units without an integrated medical staff.

Unfortunately the 852nd EAB didn't publish a unit history after the war. At some point I will have the unit's monthly reports and they may show at least some insight to the medical section.

David
