My dad was in the 876 Airborne Engineer Aviation Battalion company B and was in gliders and jump qualified I believe. He never talked much about anything to do with the war, and is gone now. Trying to research as much as possible about what he did during the war. He was in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns 1942 to 1945. Any info on great sites which this one is and or info about his unit etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome. I'm glad you found the site.

The Airborne aviation engineers were a special breed of unit and not much has been written about them. One reference of note is the book Army Air Forces in World War II.

I also know of some good archival film at the National Archives which show the airborne aviation engineers in training at Westover Field, MA. I am hoping to get a copy in May of this year. Keep an eye on the "What's New" forum and I'll let folks know when I have it.

Let me know if you'd like to create a page for your father and I will make room for it here on the site.

David

My grandfather also served in this battalion. His name was T/Sgt Francis B. Grasso. I don't know too much about him, but I'd like to know about his unit. I'm hoping to find more info myself. Thanks for any info you might be able to give me.

I'm glad you found the site Steven and I have added your grandfather to the unit's roster.
