I've recently acquired a booklet titled: 973rd Engineer Maintenance Company: Our First Anniversary. It gives an account of the 973rd Eng Maint Co from activation at Camp Beale, CA on September 1943 to September 1944. It also includes a unit roster at that time. I'll add it to the list of projects to scan and post on the site.

Hello Dave,
I'm so glad to hear you have found information from the 973rd's camp days. I know my Grandfather was being processed at Ft. Lewis California in Sept 1943 and by May 1944 he was issued a Pass to visit Paso Robles California from the 973rd, signed by what appears to be Capt. L. T. Thanp (?). I am looking forward to viewing this document.
Thanks again for what your doing
William

William, I haven't had time to scan the booklet and get it on the site correctly so I just did a quick and dirty "fax to self and make pdf". Here's the file ... http://ixengineercommand.com/units/973rd/973rd-anniv.pdf. I'll later do a better scan, etc. but wanted you to be able to read this as soon as possible.

David,
The file is fantastic. I'm so glad books like this still exist. The file will look great when it's touched up, but the current format is fine for my research.
Thanks again
William

William, glad it will help. What I try to do with all the histories is to both scan it for the photos as well as OCR it for the text so that people can search through the books for names, places, etc.

Like you, I've got lot's on my plate right now but hopefully I'll be able to get back to these soon.

Guys,

As I have posted in the other forum on the 973rd I have just scanned the document that I recieved on the unit. It covers from the inception of the unit until it was decommisioned. It has dates, places and sometimes peoples names. I would like to share this with you and William, all I need is a place to send it.

Spencer, I don't have a place on this site that will allow you to post the PDF. I did just create an ftp drop point. Here is the URL

ftp://ixecguest:ixec@ftp.servage.net/

Try this and let me know.

David

David,

I just transferred the information to cd and I would like to just send it to you. I have included some pictures of my great uncle so they can be placed on the web site. I have also posted a WW2 Honoree at the WW2 memorial. Can you link these with hs pictures and information?

Hey Spencer. I've created the template page for your great uncle. Here's the link ...

http://ixengineercommand.com/men/973rd/granum-n-874.php

Once we get the photos, etc. we can start adding to this. Let me know if you want any text, etc. on the page.

David

David,

The cd with all of my great uncles information is on the way. I put it in the mail at 0900 today so I hope it reaches you soon. The cd also contains the documents about the 973rd and the 472nd so I hope that you can get a copy up so William can see them. Thank you again for all of your help.

Happy holidays to all.

Thanks Spencer. I'll look forward to receiving it. I'll take a look at how you sent the documents and try to put them together in a format we can use here.

David

All of the documents are in pdf format. The pictures you should be able to open them with most picture type applications.

David,

Today I was able to scan the rest of the documents. I scanned both the one that you had made a ruff copy of and the other IX Engineer Command document that had some reduced down documents. I will try to upload the documents on your web link.
