My grandfather, George J. Rauth, rarely spoke of his military service to his children or grandchildren. Sadly he passed away in 2007, and took with him, the stories of his service during the war. Over the past few years, I have been trying to piece together his time in the Army. As a recently separated Army Captain/veteran, I have been able to apply some of my training and experience into identifying his service, but I have not yet been successful in placing him.

I have a few of his possessions and have been able to make assumptions into his service. I have identified his Medic brassard and his Medical Service branch lapel pins, so I know that he was in a medical attachment. He had approximately 6x IX Engineering Command patches, which has led me to believe that he served in some capacity with the unit. I also identified two E8 Master Sergeant stripes, so I believe that he was a Master Sergeant or a Technical Sergeant. Lastly, I have several of his religious artifacts (crucifixes, missal, etc.), so I know that he was deeply religious.

If anyone can help me in anyway, I would be extremely grateful. Feel free to contact me at mbustard1@gmail.com.

Thank you for all that you have done!
