My plans for the site are to include as much primary source materials are possible. If you have copies of photos that you'd like to share, you can email scanned copies to me and I can get them up quickly. Please include any information you might have about the location, date and people in the photo. If you can't scan the photos, I can do that for you and return them immediately. If you'd rather not trust them to the mail then true photographic copies can be scanned. I have found that color copies made at places like Kinko's do not scan well.

If you have copies of unit histories or other primary source documents, place contact me. I would be happy to reimburse you for the cost of making copies. I am trying to collect as many of these histories as possible to keep them together for posterity.

Just send me an email at david at ixengineercommand.com

David

Hello David. Is the site still active? I have some info on an 850th member that I found on Ebay. Also a question about the 834th unit history book.
Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick. Yes, still active but work has been keeping me really busy. I'm trying to catch up on things.

Glad to hear from you David. I can relate to working lots . My question about the 834th book is. About 30 pages in there is a green page with a circle in the middle and an arrow going top to bottom. In the circle it states that there was an insert of a color map showing the 834th movements. I did not get that map when I bought a copy. Is there a map or did it not get published with the book? The copy I found was in pretty good shape and seems complete.
My second item is. I purchased from epay a while back some photos of Vernon H. Strommen. In the photos he is on a scraper and you can see clearly 850th markings on the bumper. He passed away in his home town of Twin Valley Mnn in 05. He was a sergeant as can be seen in the photos. I just thought you might have a list of members of the 850 and would like to add his name or be able to find out what he did . I have the book "Thus We Served" but it has no unit member photos like the 834th book.

I forgot to mention that on the back of the photo of Vernon on the scraper he explains the bumper markings. I could take of photo of the photo if you are interested.

The first copy of the 834th EAB history I found was like yours. It did not have the accompanying map. Luckily I located a second copy which still had it's map.

I haven't been able to get this map scanned yet and added to the history pages but hope to soon.

Concerning Vernon Strommen ... the 850th EAB book does have a list of men but I have not been able to convert it yet. I took a look but did not see Sgt Strommen listed. I would be very interested in seeing the photo though. Perhaps we can figure out why he isn't listed.

I don't know how I missed the names in the 850th history ! I got out my copy and they begin in the front and end in the back. No Vernon. Well here are a couple of photos for you to see. You can see that the bumper of the left tractor is marked for the 850th and he wrote on the back of the photo that it is the 850th headquarters company.
The map for the 834th looks great . Would you consider sending me a digital scan/photo of it for me to print out to have with my book?
