Pvt Anderson was orignally assigned to the 75th Infantry Division, 290th Regiment, Company L but was wounded on Christmas Eve, 1944 at La Roumier Hill, Belgium. After being rescued on Christmas Day, he was sent to England to recover. Pvt Anderson received the Purple Heart for his wounds.
In February 1945, Pvt Anderson was assigned to the 843rd EAB, Company B, and joined the unit at Loan/Couvron, France. He served with the 843rd Engineer Aviation Battalion (EAB) until the unit demobilized. In September 1945, he was transfered to the 831st EAB, Company A, and was with them about a month before returning home.
